Kamishiro Karen is a Japanese author and a psychology professor. She is also known as “the mother of modern Japanese psychology”. Kamishiro has published two books, “The Psychology of Women”, and “The Psychology of Men”, which were based on her research on the psychology of women and men respectively. She has also written extensively on the development of personality and social psychology. Kamishiro received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Tokyo in 1959. She then taught at a number of universities in Japan and the United States before moving to the University of Hawaii in 1987. She remained there until her retirement in 1999.
