A personality type is INFP, for instance. It’s not hard to see why people might think these are just plain old “introverts” or “extroverts”. But that’s not the case. INFPs only feel comfortable around other INFPs because they can understand their inner emotional lives.
INFPs are not introverts. They are not extroverts. They are otherworldly, sensitive, and decidedly un-common archetypes. They are the other. And the other is extremely comfortable with itself.
INFPs are at home in other people’s heads, but they need the comfort of a community to be truly happy. They have a hard time being alone and tend to be a little strange in a group of people who don’t understand them.
The INFP has a tendency to be very sensitive to other people’s feelings and personal space. We all have a way of reacting to others, but INFPs have a tendency to react very intensely to other people’s reactions. In order to avoid hurting someone else, they tend to withdraw into themselves and their own thoughts.
