I’m not going to lie to you and pretend that I wasn’t a little scared when I started working with Irwin. In my 20s, I was completely shut down in social situations. I didn’t have a lot of friends and I was generally uncomfortable around people. So when I started working with Irwin, I was anxious about the fact that his job required him to interact with patients.
But let me back up a bit. Like most INFJs, I had a hard time with interpersonal relationships. I tended to be very sensitive and preferred to spend time alone.
When I was in high school, I was in a relationship with a guy who was an INFJ. He was really sweet and caring. But he was severely depressed. When I would go visit him, he would talk about his desire to die. When I would try to talk to him about it, he would change the subject.
I remember the day that he came to visit me at school and told me that he wanted to die.
