Background
Akira Ishida was born to a Japanese father and an American mother. However, he was raised in the United States, and was a citizen of both countries. During his childhood, he was a very shy and introverted individual. He was also bullied by other students at school, and took it to heart. One time, he was so depressed, he nearly attempted suicide. The reason of his depression was because of how others treated him. He liked to draw, and was the captain of the school's art club. Tezuka Kunimitsu, one of his schoolmates, took an interest in him, and encouraged him to work on his drawing. In addition to drawing, he also liked reading manga and anime. He would borrow books from the library on a daily basis.
At age fourteen, Akira moved back to Japan. He returned to his childhood home for one year, and then decided to return to his hometown of Kyoto to live with his parents.
