Wood said he's still not completely sure what made the women pick him for the experience.
"I came in here and I just figured, 'Oh, how are you going to make this happen?' Then all of a sudden, everything just started happening," said Wood.
"We are happy to be able to celebrate a milestone in the life of a couple who've been together for more than 50 years," said Dr. Jovanka Hushbeck, associate professor of psychology at Western Michigan University. "It's always a very exciting time when we have a couple that is celebrating 50 years together, and their children are able to be present and capture the experience."
Hushbeck said the best part is this was a moment captured by their children, who will cherish it forever.
"It's not very often in our culture that grandparents get to have this experience where they're able to celebrate their children," said Hushbeck.
