Lydic said that she was inspired to start blogging after being inspired by other people's blogs. When she was about 14 years old, Lydic started writing poetry. At the beginning of her freshman year, she took an initiative class called "Writing for Change" taught by Elizabeth Nesbitt, now a professor at DePaul University.
Nesbitt eventually convinced Lydic to start writing about what was happening in her life.
"I always thought I was going to write for HBO or be a journalist," Lydic said. "It was kind of a weird thing to do at first."
