I had been doing a lot of freelance work in my previous job, so I knew it wasn't going to be hard to find work in the UK - and I did, at first. I did a fair few gigs and did alright for myself.
However, I kept having to go back home and get jobs to pay my bills. I got a job in a bar that only lasted two weeks, then a cleaning job that fell through, and then an office job that only lasted a few months before the company closed.
I spent the next year unemployed, and I was pretty desperate, to be honest. I'd been job hunting non-stop and hadn't had much luck. My best friend, who was also looking for work during this time, told me about a career fair that had just happened and that I should go to it.
I'd heard of these before and knew they were quite popular but I thought they were just for people looking for jobs that didn't require a degree or any formal qualifications.
