Theodorus Wilhelmus (Theo) Maassen (Oegstgeest, December 8, 1966) is a Dutch comedian and actor. His work is characterized by hard humor, high joke density and social criticism, with recurring themes: hypocrisy, commercialization and conformism. Maassen has been active since 1990, the year in which he became the first member of the Comedytrain and won the prestigious cabaret festival Cameretten. His first full evening show Bepaalde dingen premiered in 1994. Since then, he has performed with ten different cabaret programs. He received the Criticism Prize, the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds Theater Prize and the Poelifinario for his show Tegen beter weten in (2006–2007). He won the latter prize again in 2017 with Vankwaadtoterger. His program Zonder pardon (2008–2009) is the first cabaret show that has been shown in Dutch cinemas. In 2013 he gave the New Year's Eve conference for the VARA. Maassen attended the Academy of Drama in his home town of Eindhoven.
