Ben Hanscom personality type is INFP, or ‘introverted intuitive feeling perceiver.’ This means that they are very introspective, and are most comfortable with quiet, unstructured environments. They are introspective and creative, and tend to be very sensitive, emotionally driven individuals.
The key defining characteristic of INFP is their dualistic nature. In their minds, they are split between the ideal self and the real self. (This is something that I have written about extensively here, and is something that is also covered in some of my other work.)
It is very common for INFPs to have opposing emotions. For example, they may feel incredibly joyous one moment, but then extremely anxious the next. They also tend to love getting involved in things, and being around people, but at the same time they feel very uncomfortable around others.
In Hanscom’s case, this dualistic nature really came out in his personality. The ideal self was a very creative individual who had a lot of artistic talent throughout his life. The real self however was a much more timid individual who was always searching for a place to call home.
