Personality Type Myers-Briggs
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality inventory developed in the 1940s by Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. It is based on the theory of personality developed by Swiss psychiatrist C.G. Jung. The theory is based on Jung's understanding of the relationship between the conscious and unconscious minds, or what he called the ego and the collective unconscious. The creators of the MBTI understood Jung's concept of "function" as a measure of how people perceive, express, value, and use their environment.
The MBTI measures preferences in four domains: extraversion, introversion, sensing, and intuition. It also measures whether people are more introverted or extraverted in each of the four domains. For example, someone who scores high in introversion will prefer time alone to spending time with others, but would be comfortable socializing with others.
Personality type is also based on Jung's theory of psychological functions. The four functions are: Rational (Judging), Thinking, Feeling, and Sensing.
