Etemon personality type is ESTP, but the ESTP-J style is more apathetic and less violent than the ESTP-P style. In the Digimon anime and manga, J-type Etemon is portrayed as a lazy, incompetent, and cowardly Digimon who is easily manipulated by the other members of the Dark Masters.
In Digimon Adventure, Etemon is first introduced as the Dark Master of the Greymon-DarkTyrannomon line and the second-in-command to Garudamon. When the DigiDestined learn about the Digital World, Etemon establishes a base at the old Imperial Palace. He trains Greymon and Tyrannomon until they are strong enough to battle the DigiDestined. He then has them battle BanchoLeomon, who defeats both of them. However, Greymon and Tyrannomon manage to escape before Etemon can finish them off.
In Digimon Adventure 02, Etemon appears again as the leader of the Dark Masters, the group of Dark Digimon who were responsible for the death of his partner, Devimon. He is approached by a mysterious man who tells him that it is time to revive Devimon.
