Kids were the last thing on Willy Beachum’s mind when he was a rookie quarterback in Pittsburgh in 2011.
“My only concern was my mind and my body,” he said.
In fact, Beachum didn’t have a girlfriend or have any kids while he was at the University of Virginia, where he started three years on the offensive line.
“I wasn’t married either, so I wasn’t really worried about having kids,” he said. “I wanted to be able to play. I wanted to be able to help my team win and be able to play in the NFL and do what I do.”
Beachum did get married last year and he and his wife, Elizabeth, of Woodbridge, Va., welcomed the first of their two sons on Friday. Willy is a freshman quarterback at Va Tech.
Beachum, however, is all about family life. One of his goals is to get a second child and start a family. It’s something he and his wife talked about when they were younger.
