“I was in high school,” Snider said. “It was the first time I’ve ever really had to articulate this part of myself, and I felt like it was something that I had to do. I knew that I was gay, but I didn’t really know what it was, or what it meant.”
Snider said he never had a girlfriend until he went to college. He came out to his parents when he was in college and subsequently told his teammates when he signed with the Blazers.
In an interview with the Washington Blade last year, Snider said his greatest fear was being “outed” by a teammate. In 2011, Snider said he got a text from a teammate in the middle of a road trip.
