In Naruhodō Ryūichi, Naruhodō met his future partner, Kogami Akira. At first, the two were enemies but, after realizing that they had the same goal, they became partners. They met in their first year of high school and were both ranked in the top 50 of their class.
Naruhodō's character is a stereotypical "nerd". He is often a victim of bullying and often avoided by others due to his lack of physical strength. He also has a very poor memory, except for numbers, which he knows by heart. In spite of his appearance and demeanor, he is kind and not one to get angry easily, though his temper is strong. After all, he was only able to keep his cool due to his determination of protecting those who can't protect themselves.
