For the first half of the book I was in my ISFJ brain and trying to absorb and understand how and why this person was like this. I was trying to make sense of the self-harm, the depression, and the manipulation. But when her daughter turns up in the book I was like, "Why is the daughter in the book?" and then I realised that she was a plot device to explain that this woman is abusive and manipulative, and that she lost custody of her daughter.
Are there any differences between writing an autobiography and writing a memoir?
This is a memoir, but it's also a novel. The story is fiction, but it is partially inspired by true events and characters. The book is written in the first person and through the eyes of a character who is identified by a type of personality. So I've written about an ISFJ named Melanie Meh. But if you read my grocery list, you'll see it's also written in the first person and through the eyes of a grocery list writer named Melanie Meh.
