My first job was as a tour guide at the Griffith Observatory. There were no classes to attend, so I would go and study the night sky. I discovered I had an interest in astronomy. I was also interested in writing and the library had a lot of books on writing. So, I started writing stories. I also enjoyed reading, so I would go to the library and read books on writing.
The most important thing that helped me develop my writing career was a story contest I won in high school. It was sponsored by a local law firm and required me to write a short story about a relationship with an older man. This was an important step in my career because it got me started writing.
