The Bosnian Language
The language is called Bosanski in the Bosnian language community. It is the native language of the majority of people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It also serves as the lingua franca of Croatia.
It was once spoken in several parts of Europe, including parts of Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Russia. Some of these areas are now part of Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia respectively.
There are two major dialects of Bosnian: Shtokavian (Eastern) and Herzegovinian (Western). The total number of speakers worldwide is between 3 million and 5 million.
