Here's what I can tell you: Lee is a pretty interesting guy. He was born in 1953 and grew up in Texas. He started writing poetry at the age of 12 and began actively publishing his work at 16. He attended Southwest Texas State University and then went on to study business administration at the University of Texas at Austin, but dropped out after a semester. He moved to San Antonio and became a mail carrier for a few years before deciding to return to school and earn a degree in English.
His first book of poetry, ''The Bird of the Desert,'' was published in 1976 and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. His second book, ''Sailing Home,'' won the National Book Award for Poetry in 1988.
