Mokichi Robinson was born on December 30th, 1983 in the city of Tokyo, Japan. Robinson was born to a single mother who worked as a housewife. When he was young, Robinson's mother encouraged him to read the manga series 'Hikaru no Go'. At age 10, he would skip school to play Go with his father instead. At age 11, he won the All-Japan Junior Go tournament with his father.
After graduating high school, Robinson was accepted into the prestigious Waseda University where he majored in Economics. Here, he would join the Go club which he joined at the age of 16.
Mokichi Robinson would become active in the Go community during his university years. He would go on to become an active member of the Japan Go Association. He would also become an active member of his university's go club. His name would eventually become known throughout the world after he won the 2008 World Amateur Go Championship.
Robinson would later participate in different international tournaments. One of his most impressive performances was at the 2009 World Amateur Go Championship where he won both the Individual and Team events.
