ESA scientists have also found that, although the comet seems to be very active, it is not spewing out much ice and dust.
"This comet is like no other we have ever seen before," said Matt Taylor, ESA's Rosetta project scientist.
"Comets are considered the building blocks of planets, so it's very exciting to think that we might finally be able to put some numbers on how much 'stuff' is really out there.
