The MBTI is based on Carl Jung’s theory of human personality types, which is based on four contrasting functions (thinking, feeling, sensing, and intuition) and sixteen psychological functions. While Jung’s theory of personality types did not cover every possible combination of traits, Jung did believe that all people have four basic personality types. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs, two prominent psychologists.
