Raiden is similar in nature to the original Bomberman (a game I played way back in 1981), but he is also somewhat different. While the original Bomberman was a straight-forward, one-player game, Raiden is more like an arcade-style game, with multiple stages and a variety of game modes.
First and foremost, you have to play through the story mode to unlock the various other modes. The story mode consists of five stages, with each stage progressively becoming more difficult as you progress. Each stage has a time limit, which can be extended by collecting power-ups. If you die, you will restart at the beginning of the stage. You can save your game by collecting items, but do not get too attached to your save file, because you will be required to start over should you lose all your lives and progress in the stage.
The stages are fairly straightforward at first, but later stages become much more difficult. You will have to learn how to deal with the various enemy types and their attacks. In later stages, you can also get power-ups that help you deal with these enemies.
