A couple of weeks ago I was at the point where I felt like I had lost my mind. I had been feeling increasingly anxious and stressed out as my second year as a high school teacher was coming to an end. As I ended the final week of classes, I became obsessed with thoughts of quitting my job and simply quitting life as I knew it. I wanted to leave everything in a pile and start over. There was no reason for it and I knew in my heart that this was all irrational and not in my best interest.
There was also a feeling of deep sadness and dread, and it started to become difficult to smile and laugh with everybody around me. Walking into work became a chore, and when I arrived in the classroom, I could feel myself shaking and sweating.
I found myself crying in the car when I left work each day, and when I arrived home I would lock myself in my room and cry for hours. I was unable to sleep, and I could not bear even basic conversations. I felt like I was going to explode and could not say anything without crying.
