What is the personality type of R.J. MacReady? Which MBTI personality type best fits? Personality type for R.J. MacReady from The Thing 1982 and what is the personality traits.
R.J. MacReady personality type is ISTP, which matches the author's own type. The chapter on the author's personal type is a very interesting and well-written study of ISTP.
ENFP:
The chapter on the ENFP personality type is very interesting and readable, but I feel it is not entirely accurate. In particular, the author claims to have been told by a close friend of his that ISTP is one of the typologies he has been most influenced by. As I understand it, the only typology that has been quite influential for the author is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The chapter makes a number of other claims that don't seem to be supported by the Myers-Briggs data I have seen. For instance, the chapter describes the ENFP as "friendly to a fault." This is a common misconception, and one that I think is based on the fact that the Myers-Briggs scales are designed to identify psychological type. In reality, people who score high on these scales often have other qualities that make them less friendly than other people. For instance, an ENFP can be quite shy, which makes them less friendly than other types.
