The ENFP personality type is one of sixteen personality types that were outlined by Isabel Myers, who worked as a counselor and teacher in the 1940s and 1950s. She saw personality types as a way to help people understand themselves and others better. Personality types helped to categorize the ways in which people think and act, and they also helped to inform and influence counselors and educators. As Dr. David Keirsey pointed out in his book Please Understand Me, Myers focused on sixteen types that have been studied extensively by counselors and psychologists over the years. Myers’ work was largely based on Jungian psychology, but Keirsey notes that Myers added a few extra types that he felt were missing from Jung’s taxonomy.
