Pointer (American, Shorthair) personality type is ENTP, I would suppose, but I suppose you can find out for yourself if you go through the process of typing yourself.

I'm gonna recommend some good books on type in general.
1. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) by Isabel Briggs Myers and Peter B. Myers - This is the standard reference book on the subject. It is the basis for all others. This is the book that led me to discover my type. It has exercises in it to help you discover your type, and is very readable.
2. The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown - I also recommend Brene Brown's books. They are all good, but this one is about finding your inner power through vulnerability (which is what I believe makes the NTs most powerful). She has a lot of good definitions of the various types in it, and helps you understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize their potential.
3. The INTP from Within by Gary P.
Pointers are a breed of gun dogs, known for pointing at their prey. These dogs are extremely energetic, curious and playful and, despite their status of gun dog, they're known for presenting almost no danger to other animals by themselves as they don't engage in hunting.
