Sensing is essentially a process of interpretation, where the individual engages with the stimulus to create meaning. For an ISFP, sensing involves using intuition to interpret data, which is then expressed through the functions of the heart and head.
These functions are often described as “defenses” or “protectors” that act to protect the individual from danger. However, this is not accurate – these functions are not simply defensive to protect the individual against other people, but actually provide a sense of security and comfort within the individual. These functions are not mechanisms for blocking out other people or social interactions – they are actually the mechanism for engaging with other people.
