I was trying to focus on what made the beatnik so unique, even though I was trying to focus on the Beatnik, not the rapper. I didn’t want to accidentally focus on the beatnik because that would have been a shortcut for this exercise. I wanted to bring up the beatnik, and then I’d focus on the beatnik.
I found myself going back and forth between these two personalities. I would try to focus on the Beatnik, and then I would realize that I was focusing on the Beatnik, and he would be looking back at me with a confused look. In fact, it’s almost like this guy was resisting me, almost like he wanted to be left alone.
I began to try to take control of this process, to focus intently on the Beatnik in a way that would help me understand his personality in a better way. I found myself in a kind of flow state where I wasn’t losing track of the Beatnik, and I wasn’t losing track of the Beatnik being in the process.
