The first-known use of the term "Bubblegum Dance" (in full: Bubblegum Dance: A Techno and House Music Event) was in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990. In 1991, a release titled "Bubblegum Dance: A Techno and House Music Event" was released by Warp Records, a British record label specializing in acid house music.
