In my case I found that I was mildly depressed and had a lot of anxiety. I wasn’t in the best frame of mind and was also in a period of intense social pressure to perform extremely well and take my career to the next level. I had finally finished university and had a fantastic degree, which was both a positive and negative thing. It was good because I knew that I had achieved the benchmark of education but not so good because it meant that I was now expected to perform at that level.
The first thing I did was get some good help from a counsellor who helped me understand that my anxiety and depression were caused by the intense pressure and expectations which I faced. The first thing she helped me do was to build up my self-esteem by telling me how amazing I was and why I had achieved the fantastic degree.
