    "He has a history of getting into trouble with people," said retired NYPD Sergeant Doug Larkin. "I think he's an interesting case study because he probably has problems with people."

    But those problems don't seem to have affected his performance on the job. Ryan has always been known to be proactive and visible when patrolling the city's streets. And he's become a bit of a celebrity in his own right.

    "Anytime you see John Ryan out there, he's always interacting with people, making people feel safe in their own neighborhood," said Larkin. "He's a very good-looking guy as well, so he's got that going for him."
