Ritsuko Mukae personality type is ISFJ, it's not that easy to tell. She's also a very unreliable narrator. The first line of her story is "I was born in the middle of the night". Well, that's what people do when they're very young. Also, her description of her relationship with her mother is pretty much "My mother was nice", so I'm not sure if she's really ISFJ at all.
But I think she's definitely ISTJ.
Her final scene with Misato is definitely not the kind of thing you'd expect from an ISFJ.
You're right about Rei's reasoning, but I think it's still pretty weak. "Because it's fun" is not a good reason to keep fighting, even for childhood friends.
The whole issue of Misato's death is actually kind of similar to that of Shinji's. Both are forced into the pilot seat by the will of others, and both are really upset about it (in Shinji's case, he can't pilot AT ALL). But at least Shinji is aware of his situation. Misato is completely unaware of her own death, and she doesn't seem to care too much about it.
