Sam Fisher personality type is ISTP, but that doesn't mean that he's an ISTP. I've observed that in the vast majority of cases, people with the ISTP personality type behave like the ISTP because ISTPs are the ones who do the best at it.
ISTPs are generally not very well suited to sitting around and doing nothing. They need to be doing something, and they need to be doing it well, but because of their determination and their ability to focus on a single task for prolonged periods of time, they're generally not very good at sitting around and waiting for things to happen. ISTPs - and I can't think of a better term for this - are impatient people. They want things to move forward, and they want to be able to get them done as quickly as possible. If they have a problem, they want to solve it, and they try to solve it as soon as possible.
