David Keirsey’s concept of Socionics is very different from mine. I have my own version of the eight types based on Jung’s theory, which is fundamentally different from his. In my system, extroverts are not in a higher place in the hierarchy than introverts, nor do they have a more important function. All eight types have equal importance in the theory of Jung, and my version of Jung’s theory comes from the work of Gregory Bateson, who was a follower of Jung. My system is a synthesized theory that incorporates both Jung’s and Bateson’s ideas. In my system, the eight types are not all equally important, but they are all equally important in their own right.
In Jungian theory, there is a hierarchy among the four functions from sensing to intuition, from thinking to feeling, and from judging to perceiving. The rational functions—thinking and feeling—are in a higher place in this hierarchy than the irrational functions—sensing and intuition. In Jung’s system, thinking and feeling are also in a higher place than sensing and intuition.
