In one of the most memorable moments in his career, Tsonga was one of the few French tennis players able to beat Roger Federer in a major final after suffering a late break in a match. This came as a result of his famous "Tsonga Attack", a tactic he developed in 2009.

In what was a highly entertaining match, Tsonga won the first set by breaking Nadal's serve for the first time in the tournament. In the second set, Tsonga broke Nadal's serve twice. After serving out the set, Tsonga was leading 4-1 in the third set. However, Nadal would come back and win the set by a score of 6-4. Despite a loss in the fourth set, Tsonga went on to win the tournament after beating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final.
