I have always kept a journal since I was little, about things I liked, my thoughts, etc. I remember my parents getting me a diary for my birthday when I was in elementary school. I had written in it since kindergarten. It was like a second home to me.
My passion for writing started at a young age and never stopped. It was always something I wanted to do professionally, but I also worked in retail and graphic design, which helped me understand the business side of things. I wanted to become a writer and bring my artwork to life in print and online.
I ended up taking a couple classes and interning at a publishing company and then moved on to freelancing. I then spent two years in Japan teaching English and was able to land a job with a startup in New York City.
A week after starting with the company, one of the founders got laid off. The startup was closing so quickly, and they needed someone at such short notice. I was the only person they found who could do it in two weeks, so I took the job. That was my first job working for someone else, and it taught me a lot about planning and deadlines.
