James McAvoy is a Scottish actor and director. He is famous for starring in several hit movies, including "The Last King of Scotland" and "Atonement." In addition to acting, McAvoy is a published author and a practicing Buddhist.
As a child, James was diagnosed with dyslexia. He stated in an interview with the Independent that he was not comfortable with the labels that were given to him, and he felt that he was being judged for his learning disability.
"I didn't feel a part of a group or a tribe," he said. "I felt alone and so I retreated into an imaginary world. I'm not saying that's a bad thing to do, but I think that it might be something that people who have dyslexia would say, 'You're not allowed to do that because your brain is different.'"
In efforts to combat his dyslexia, James decided to take up the habit of meditation when he was in college.
