I'm not sure if this is because I just enjoy music that isn't too much of a head trip and can be a bit more 'accessible', or if I'm just getting older and less interested in trying out new things. But, I have found that it's easier to get into a band when they are like "Oh, this is just a bunch of dudes jamming together! We're not aiming for anything special, we're just doing this for fun!"
Also, I am more of a fan of bands who have been around for a while rather than those who are new and trying to find their sound. I like older bands that have been around for a few years, and still sound how they did when they first started out. This has happened to me a few times with bands I like, including one band I discovered in early 2000s and about 5 years later, I discovered that the band was actually around for 20 years - and when I first heard them, they sounded exactly the same as they did when they first started out, so I was really happy to find out that they were still the same band.
