A Tribe Called Quest – I’m not a hip-hop head, but these guys were really the first to do it big in the mid 80s when they broke through with their classic debut, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.
The Prodigy – I know this is a bit of a stretch, but I feel like their music crosses over to the dance music genre in a big way, and it’s not like this is brain or brainy music. It’s catchy as hell, and would be great for parties. And the lead singer is kind of hot, too.
The Roots – I’m not a big hip-hop fan, but I like the group’s music and they write amazing songs. I think what they do on records is great on its own, but the live show is spectacular. Check out this video of them performing “Water” live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
