FINNEAS - Lost My Mind personality type is INFP, and I am really trying to stop using that label. I recently read an article in the Washington Post entitled, The Myers-Briggs Test: A Manual for Dysfunctional People by John M. Grohol. In it, he states:
“As a college professor and clinician, I’ve seen that the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) has become a “diagnosis” by which to categorize people. It’s a convenient shortcut to help us understand others and ourselves. I’ve seen people who were not ill, yet whose lives were transformed when they discovered their MBTI type. People who were not confused but found themselves suddenly in a world of new choices and directions.”
I’m not sure what the author means by people not being ill. I think that I know what he means - that people who use the MBTI and others like it to label people and then try to guide them to do things that the labeling has enabled the person to do. They are describing a very dangerous form of therapy.
