The self-in-relation is what is being expressed by the individual in his relations with other selves, and it is part of the individual's striving to be understood by others. It is the core of the self-concept, and is itself a part of the ego. The self-in-relation is not a part of the concrete psychological functioning of the self, but plays an important part in its total expression."
