"It's important to make sure we have a credible deterrent. And it's important to make sure we have a deterrent that can credibly threaten retaliation." The comments come days after the White House announced plans to spend billions of dollars over the next decade to upgrade the nation's nuclear arsenal. Work said the U.S. military needs a new long-range cruise missile for its submarine-based ballistic missiles as well as new bombers to replace its aging B-52s.
