Pierce the Veil was formed in May of 2010 in the city of San Diego, California by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, who are the only founding members of the band. They found the name Pierce the Veil through a friend, and it stuck. They have since been joined by keyboardist Tony Perry and drummer Jeremy McKinnon. Pierce the Veil's music is described as alternative rock and post-hardcore, but their sound has also been described as emo. The band's name was chosen as a reference to the fact that one of the band members would be expected to die before the age of 30.
