I would say the best sad song is "Yesterday". If you've never heard it, you should. It's absolutely beautiful, and the lyrics are so profound. John Lennon wrote this song when his wife was dying of cancer, and it's just beautiful.
I also like "The Scientist" by Coldplay. It's not as sad, but it's so beautiful.
