This, I think, is the most crucial part of the story. I also think that this is why Emmitt and Morelli's relationship works: He's a Thinker-type and she's an Imp-type (ISFJ). What I mean by this is that Emmitt is able to reach her through her feelings, and Morelli reaches her through her rational mind.
I'll be brief in my presentation of this theory because I don't want to derail this thread. When we first meet Morelli, he's being interviewed by a police detective and he says that he only dated single mothers, because he was afraid of commitment. He's a Thinker, so he can't commit. He doesn't have a strong sense of family because he doesn't have a strong sense of himself, because he's afraid of commitment. At the end of the book, Morelli and Emmitt are both single fathers.
