King Crimson - Starless personality type is INFP, which is no surprise to those who know him, but it's the first time I've seen it in a self-diagnosis for anyone.
The first thing that came to mind was the Dune series, where Paul Atreides (in his youth) was described as having a "starless personality".
One of the main themes of the series is the idea that a person can be conditioned in one direction by their environment, and later (or simultaneously) in another direction by their own will. To an extent, I think that applies to most people; we are both shaped by our experiences and by our desires, and we're always influenced by both.
In Paul's case, he was originally conditioned to think that he was only a tool to be used by the Harkonnen, and his own will was suppressed by that. However, at the same time, he was able to do the same thing to them - condition them to think they were only tools to be used, and suppress their own will.
I think that applies to many people with "starless personalities".
