It was the first album to feature the name of the band, and it was also the last to feature founding member, songwriter and bassist, Chris Frantz.
In 1982, Frantz and his wife and bandmate, Tina Weymouth, moved to New York City to take up residence in a loft in Manhattan's West Village. From their loft in the West Village, they would host regular parties where they would sing and play their music for their friends.
The parties would lead to the formation of the band, which was actually born out of a recording session. Frantz and Weymouth recorded some songs for a small independent label called Elektra Records. It was during this session that Frantz and Weymouth came up with the name for the band, which had been inspired by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.
