Maes Hughes was first introduced as a young boy who was saddened by the deaths of his parents. He also seemed to be bitter at his father's death because of the fact that his father chose to be with the group of people who killed his parents.
However, Maes' character went through an evolution throughout the series. He eventually became more open-minded and gained more respect for his father. He also became more forgiving to his mother's killers after seeing them morph into these pretty creatures.
He also developed compassion for the other people on the island. He would often try to help other characters in need, which was especially important when he lost his memories after saving Millie.
Maes Hughes' death
Maes Hughes' death occurred when he was attacked by Millie's brother, Ethan. Ethan stabbed Maes Hughes, causing massive blood loss and damage to Maes' heart. Maes Hughes eventually died from these injuries.
After his death, Maes' spirit continued to help the survivors on the island.
