The series begins with the two officers preparing to go on a patrol, but their car breaks down, forcing them to make a call for help. They find themselves in a vehicle chase and the chase ends in the parking lot of a shopping mall. Two men get out of the vehicle and attack the officers. After fighting off the men, the officers go to check on the vehicle's registration. As they are going through the registration, they hear sirens and see flashing lights coming from the mall. The officers are okay as they have survived the ordeal, but one of the men who attacked them has died. The other man is taken into custody and identified as a suspect in a robbery. The officers then go back to the crime scene to look for clues.
Later on, they are called to investigate the murder of an elderly man. The officers then investigate a murder that occurred at a local bar where Officer Jay had been working as a bouncer. The owner of the bar and her daughter are also murdered. The officers spend time investigating all the homicides, but it is not until a young woman is brutally murdered that they realize that there may be a serial killer on the loose.
