They are the ones that are expected to be the "quiet one" in the family, where you'd expect them to not talk about something until they're sure you're ready to hear it. They're the ones that are expected to play it safe, and not rock the boat.
The Wife is the one that is often considered the "strong one" in their relationship, and even though this is often true, it's also expected: The one who is expected to be the one to pick up the slack and take care of things while her husband is off at work. The one who is expected to do all the cooking while her husband takes care of the finances. The one who is expected to do all the housekeeping while her husband takes care of his job. The one who is expected to take care of all of the children while her husband takes care of his work.
